Communication is at the heart of behavior change. For many individuals with limited vocal language, alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) systems can open the door to increased independence, reduced challenging behavior, and improved quality of life. Yet many behavior analysts report feeling uncertain about how to effectively support AAC implementation.
This 5-day Summer Camp is designed to help BCBAs better understand their role in supporting alternative communication systems while collaborating effectively with speech-language pathologists and caregivers. You'll learn practical strategies for assessing communication needs, selecting meaningful communication targets, teaching AAC use, and promoting generalization across environments.
Topics include:
• Foundations of AAC and alternative communication systems
• Identifying communication needs and selecting functional targets
• Teaching communication using modeling, prompting, and reinforcement
• Generalization across home, school, and community settings
• Caregiver training and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Troubleshooting common AAC implementation challenges
Whether you're supporting a learner using PECS, speech-generating devices, communication boards, or other AAC systems, this Summer Camp will provide practical strategies to help increase functional communication and improve outcomes.
